I'm going to start this review with a sort of disclaimer, and that is that a lot of my "problems" with this film are arguably just artistic nuances that don't align with my personal tastes. In terms of historical accuracy, Gohatto is right on the money for everything except the subject it's primarily dealing with.

I confess I find films with the subject of homosexuality difficult to watch but the subject matter was handled with a great deal of delicacy and insight and I found myself engaged from start to finish.
